Press Report: Shorrock, Holmes on the Case in Birmingham

SIDNEY SHORROCK and Emma Holmes celebrated medal performances at the weekend.

Sidney made her England debut at the Schools International Track and Field Championships held at Carmarthen, while Emma represented West Cheshire Athletic Club at the England Athletics Under 20 Women’s Track and Field Championships staged at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Sidney powered her way to a silver medal in the Intermediate Girls Shot Put Competition at Carmarthen with a put of 13.96m on the back of a new personal best of 14.73m to merit a silver medal at the English Schools Championships the week before.

And Emma secured a bronze medal with a time of 55.06 seconds for her under 20 women’s 400m final at Birmingham.

West Cheshire AC members were also in action at Saturday’s Cheshire Track and Field League third round fixture hosted at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, and Sunday’s final round of the Under 13 and Under 15 Youth Development Track and Field League held at Bebington Oval.

HIGHLIGHTS of Saturday’s Cheshire League fixture included Nathan Owen’s 11.7 seconds victory in the under 15 boys 100m, Seb Whiteley’s winning under 15 boys shot put of 12.86m, Carys Manson’s winning senior women’s 100m victory of 13.3 seconds and Joy Hickman’s club age group 100m club record of 17.0 seconds.

Arwen Thorne won the under 15 girls long jump (4.57m) and shot put (8.30m), and her sister, Violet won the under 13 girls javelin (18.08m), and Nia Manson rounded the under 13 girls 1200m in a winning time of 4:07.6.

Lewis Morris (10:16.0) and Emilia Pyper (11:04.5) won the men’s and women’s 3,000m races at the start of the meeting.

West Cheshire AC was represented in the male events by Dan Walker, Paul Morrison, Christian Holcombe, Lewis Russell-Holdsworth, George Grimsditch, Lucas Sawyer, Harley Crabtree, Jack McWilliams, Harvey Elliot, Finlay Edwards, James Wallis, Charles Owen, Thomas Cerexhe, Xavier Slinn, Alfie Thompson, Jack Arnold, and Max Molloy.

Lucy Vaughan, Emma Bradley, Eleanor Wheeler, Grace Andrews, Faith Draisey, Amelia Owen, Sophie Baker, Amelia Clarke, Amelia Cogan, Florence Hain, Rosie Grimsditch, Heidi Wetherall, Belle Thompson, Heidi Anstey, Saskia Keresterova, Abby Gamble, Louisa Cogan, Mollie Cooke, Robyn Crabtree, Francesca Disley, Jasmine Bailey, Hermione Allison, Molly Gore, Molly Lee, Lexie Ison, Poppy Tromans, Isabelle Speirs, Isla Lambert, Mair Roberts, Anna McCarthy, and Merryn Thorne team up for West Cheshire AC’s female events.

UNDER 11s: 1 Warrington 113 points; 2 West Cheshire 104; 3 Deeside 65; 4 Macclesfield 46; 5 Handforth and Knutsford 32.

WOMEN’S: 1 Warrington 233; 2 West Cheshire 174; 3 Macclesfield 139; 4 Deeside 123; 5 Handforth and Knutsford 12.

MEN’S: 1 Warrington 180; 2 Deeside 158; 3 Macclesfield 138; 4 West Cheshire 127.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S COMBINED: 1 Warrington 413; 2 West Cheshire 301; 3 Deeside 281; 4 Macclesfield 277; 5 Handforth and Knutsford 12.

The final round of the Cheshire Track and Field League will be held at Oldham, on Sunday, August 25.

IFUNANYA UGWUOKE starred for West Cheshire AC at Bebington Oval in the final round of the Under 13 and Under 15 Youth Development Track and Field League on Sunday.

Ifunanya was making her debut for the club and celebrated a double success story after clocking a winning time of 10.0 seconds in the under 13 girls 75m and achieving winning distance of 4.37m in the long jump.

Seb Whiteley won the under 15 boys shot put with 13.18m and Violet Thorne hit 7.25m for victory in the under 13 girls shot put competition, while Harriet Beattie won the under 15 girls B 800m in 2:28.0 and Emma Bradley hit 23.33m for victory in the under 15 girls B javelin competition, while Evan Jones won the under 13 boys B long jump with 3.83m, and Poppy McKenna won the under 13 girls B 1200m in 4:18.7.

FIXTURES this weekend include the England Athletics Under 15 and Under 17 Track and Field Championships and Under 20 and Senior Combined Events Championships, at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

ENTRIES close this Friday, (July 26), for the Northern Under 17s, 15s and 13s Track and Field Championships taking place at Derby next month.

HELSBY is the venue for the first round of the Borders Road Running League on September 29.

Other provisional dates and venues are: November 3 at Tattenhall; December 8 at Cybi Striders; January 26 at Deestriders; March 16 at Ellesmere Port; April 6 at Buckley Runners; May 7 at either Prestatyn, Chester Tri, or West Cheshire (Presentation Evening).

All races are on Sundays and start at 11am except for the final race which is on a Wednesday evening with a 7pm start and is a relay event.

WEST CHESHIRE AC has a busy schedule of fixtures lined up for the year ahead.

The Club’s Northern Track and Field League squad will take part in West Premier Division fixtures at Ellesmere Port on Saturday, August 17.

West Cheshire AC will compete in the Cheshire Track and Field League on Sunday, August 25 (at Oldham).
